US threatens EU further tariffs | Currently World | '
In the dispute over subsidies for the aircraft industry, the US is considering punitive tariffs on products from Europe such as cheese, sausage and whiskey. The office of US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer presented in Washington a list of about four billion dollars (3.5 billion euros) worth of EU goods, which could be imposed on retaliatory tariffs for illegal state aids in aircraft construction.
These tariffs would add to a pre-existing $ 21 billion list of EU products, the Trade Representative said. The new list includes cheeses such as reggiano, provolone, edam and gauda, as well as sausages, pasta and olives.

In the WTO dispute over illegal subsidies for the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the US first published a preliminary list of EU goods in April. The EU responded promptly with a list of US goods, which in turn could be charged with retaliatory tariffs.
However, in the 15-year conflict over illegal subsidies for aviation giants Airbus and Boeing, a WTO arbitrator must first decide on possible special tariffs.
