Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe must serve her sentence of several years. This was announced by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to British Middle East envoy Andrew Murrison in Tehran. According to the state news agency IRNA, Araghchi told the British envoy that Zaghari-Ratcliffe would have no exception: "Those in Iran who are being arrested for espionage must serve all their detention." The Iranian judiciary will also not be impressed by protests from her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, in front of the Iranian embassy in London.
41-year-old Zaghari Ratcliffe, project manager for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the non-profit arm of information group Thomson Reuters, has been on a hunger strike a week or so ago to protest her imprisonment. As a result, her husband Richard has begun a vigil outside the Iranian Embassy in London.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in April 2016 following a private visit to her parents in Iran. She is accused of conspiracy, cooperation with Western intelligence agencies and espionage. The woman, who has both British and Iranian citizenship, has rejected all allegations. However, the Iranian authorities consider Zaghari-Ratcliffe to be Iranian only because they do not recognize dual nationality.
Murrison's visit to Tehran was prompted by discussions on the 2015 international nuclear deal, but there were also hopes that he could negotiate with the Iranian leadership for an early release from Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Despite repeated efforts by the British government to release her, the five-year-old mother of a four-year-old daughter is still being held at the notorious Ewin Prison in Tehran. Britain's Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt offered her diplomatic protection in March.
