The Prora blocks I and II
Part of the 4.5-kilometer NS-Ferienimmobilie Prora on the island of Rügen becomes a youth hostel. The € 16.3 million renovation of Block 5 is scheduled to open in 2011. The hostel will have 98 rooms and 400 beds. The National Socialists built the "Colossus of Prora" as the first complex of a planned gigantic holiday resort of the organization "Kraft durch Freude" for 20,000 people. The plant was never operated as such. In GDR times, the site was used by the National People's Army (NVA).
