Uruguay equalize with Japan in Copa America
Uruguay doubled their lead twice to draw 2-2 with Japan at the Copa America Cup last night with two controversial referees, but will wait until the last game in the group to secure the quarter-finals.
Koji Miyoshi gave Japan the lead, with an invitation card, after a counter-attack in the 25th minute and Luis Suarez equalized seven minutes later after a controversial review of the ruling video.
He calculated a mistake against defender Naomichi Oyeda, who seemed to have suffered a foul from Edison Cavani in their struggle for the ball, amid the Asian team's amazement.
Japan recovered in the 59th minute as Miyoshi took advantage of a mistake by Uruguayan Fernando Moslera to score his second goal.
But Uruguay, who won the Copa America 15 times, drew the equalizer seven minutes later with a header from defender Jose Jimenez.
Uruguay top the group with four points while Japan come in third with one point.
Second-placed Chile play three points against Ecuador on Wednesday.
