Treatment of clots or clotting: a new application unites treatments

Health

In the first step of its kind in the Arab world, the Lebanese Heart Association (LSC) has launched a mobile phone application that allows doctors to have access to a clear program on anticoagulants (OAP) and to identify treatment methods for patients at risk of arterial syndrome Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), a broad term that encompasses a number of conditions, including unstable angina and myocardial infarction or insufficiency.

The "OAP Select" application was launched with support from AstraZeneca and can now be downloaded and updated through App Store and Google Play's official Google Play Store.

The application unites treatments

This application aims at addressing the reality of "the need for physicians in various hospitals in Lebanon to develop a standardized program of antiplatelets in the treatment of acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS), which helps physicians make the right choices based on the latest scientific recommendations, starting from the first point of contact beyond Out of the hospital, "explained Professor Antoine Sarkis, president of the Lebanese Society of Cardiology and project developer.

Over the past decade, the guidelines developed to treat acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS) have developed significantly in terms of anti-platelet options (OAP) in conjunction with aspirin, to reduce the risk of recurrent cardiovascular disease symptoms.

Anticoagulant treatment (or blood clotting or clots)

Anticoagulant therapy plays an important role in the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Anti-platelet drugs help prevent the accumulation of arterial sclerosis, particularly myocardial infarction and stroke.

Anticoagulants protect against the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, cardiovascular and other serious vascular disease, which may affect patients or people with known cardiovascular risk factors. These medications are started immediately after the appearance of symptoms of vascular disease, and over a long period of time may extend to several years, according to the assessment of the treating physician.

What is acute coronary syndrome and risk factors?

Acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS) refers to a group of unstable angina cases (UA) and myocardial infarction (STEMI-NSTEMI) with coronary artery blockage that leads to inadequate blood flow to the heart tissue, Is the most common cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

The risk factors associated with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) include the major risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) such as high LDL cholesterol and age group, family history of coronary heart disease, smoking, high blood pressure, low HDL cholesterol, And other risks of coronary heart disease such as diabetes.

High-level medical presence

The application was launched at a local scientific symposium headed by Professor George Ghanem, Head of Cardiology and Medical Director at the Lebanese American University Medical Center – Rizk Hospital, which was moderated by the president of the elected association Dr. Malik Mohammed and Prof. Rabea Azar, Hotel Dieu de France Hospital. A set of guidelines for early and long-term treatment of acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS) was presented briefly, followed by a comprehensive presentation by Professor Sarkis on the program and the use of OAP Select.
