Winner Mauro Colagreco was speechless after announcing the decision in Singapore and then called out "Wow, wow, wow". The 42-year-old is Argentinian with Italian roots and opened in 2006 the "Mirazur" in the town of Menton on the Côte d'Azur. Still ranked third in the previous year, he is now at the top of the World's 50 Best Restaurants. Colagreco attributed his kitchen team's success: "Thanks, my team, you deserve it, all these years," said the cook. In second place was the "Noma" in Copenhagen, third place is occupied by the Spanish restaurant "Asador Etxebarri".

The ranking is based on the secret choice of more than a thousand chefs, restaurant owners, food critics and other industry professionals from around the world. Critics complain, however, that the criteria for the election are unclear.
Third Michelin star in January
The "Mirazur" near the Italian border had already been decorated in January with its third Michelin star. In 2007, a year after the opening, the Argentine chef has already received his first Michelin star. The second star followed in 2012. The restaurant serves dishes made with ingredients from Colagrecos garden as well as fish and seafood.
