The residents of Guadalajara in Mexico have seen an unusual sight: a hailstorm covered parts of the city in white. In the district of Rancho Blanco, the hail that had fallen in the night was up to a meter deep, as the Civil Defense Department of the State of Jalisco announced.

Many cars and houses were damaged, they said. Work is underway to clear the streets.

Children played with ice balls. "These are scenes that I have never seen in Guadalajara," said Enrique Alfaro, Governor of Jalisco. " It's incredible."
