Indian navy announces sending two warships to Gulf to secure navigation

The Indian navy announced on Friday that it had deployed two warships in the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman against the backdrop of escalating tension in the region.
Indian naval spokesman Dalip Kumar Sharma told reporters that the two ships, the Chennai and Sunayna, had been deployed in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to carry out maritime security operations, escort Indian merchant ships and "coordinate between the parties concerned," according to the Associated Press.
The Indian Air Force is carrying out reconnaissance operations in the area.
The decision came against the backdrop of the targeting of two tankers in the Gulf of Oman by an unknown destination last week, in an incident which is the second in about a month, and blamed the United States, Britain and Saudi Arabia on Iran, while Tehran rejects these accusations strongly.
