Commission: Society Is Involved in Sexual Abuse | Politics & Society | '
Sexual abuse of the child remains too often undetected and those affected find too little support – the Independent Commission for the Recovery of Sexual Abuse found this in their annual report presented in Berlin. For this, 30 reports of those affected were documented.
"The reports from those affected above all show how often the nearby environment and society has failed and children have not been protected, and responsibility must be taken," said Commission President Sabine Andresen. In total, 1,700 people affected by sexual violence reported to the reprocessing commission in the past three years. 900 of them were heard, and a further 300 written reports were evaluated. 83 percent of those who report are women.
Looking away from the environment
According to the report, those affected described sexual violence at school, in homes, in church, in sports or other recreational facilities. The majority, however, 56 percent, experience abuse in their families. Especially in the case of an act in the family children experienced a "existential continuous burden". Often a complete break with the family is the only way to escape the perpetrators.

One reason why abuse is not recognized is according to the report in the environment of the affected children. Society needs to learn to take children seriously so they do not faint.
Sabrina Drews from the Rostock Counseling Center for Sexual Violence says that "children should be told of the experiences up to eight times before they are helped." The Refurbishment Commission therefore demands in its report that employees of the authorities, the judiciary and health insurances be prepared and trained to deal with traumatized people.
The panel was set up in 2016, initially limited to three years. However, the term was extended until 2023. The work of the commission is "of great value to our society," said Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey. Commission Chair Andresen also announced the priorities of the Commission this year. These include the processing of abuse in sport and the so-called pedosexual movement. It also aims to investigate abuses that target people with disabilities.
