A total of 16 productions and outstanding achievements on television have been honored with the Grimme Prize. In Marl in Westphalia, the award was presented in the four categories fiction, entertainment, information and culture as well as children and youth. One of the best known winners is the satirist Jan Böhmermann. Together with his team, he was honored in the entertainment category for the program "Let yourself be monitored – The Prism Is a Dancer Show" (ZDF / ZDF Neo). It addresses the unsuspecting use of personal data on the Internet. It is already the fifth Grimme Prize for Böhnermann.
Once again, comedian Maren Kroymann won her sketch comedy show "Kroymann". It was soothing and sat on the soft tones, said the jury.
On the other hand, another TV entertainer could be happy about his first Grimme Award: Luke Mockridge. The 30-year-old comedian was honored for his game show "Catch! The Great Sat.1 Catch Friday". On the red carpet, he praised the event: "It is a great honor to be there when the intellectual elite is honored."

Outstanding journalistic content
In addition to entertainment formats also some journalistic contributions were awarded. The longest and loudest applause went to the ARD "Weltspiegel" moderator Isabel Shayani. Among other things, the jury praised her visit to the largest refugee camp in the world in northern Kenya. Their report gives the hundreds of thousands of unknown people in the camp a face and a story.
A special prize was won by the "Docupy" team of the WDR for the three-part series "The Story: Ungleichland" about social inequality and the associated online concept.
Each year, a special prize is awarded. The award is given to personalities or institutions that have made outstanding contributions to television. This year, the special honor of the German Adult Education Association went to the German-French television station Arte.
"Educational television can be fun," praised the association president and CDU chairman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. The TV station celebrated its award on Twitter.
The Grimme jury rewarded once again several series. Amazon Prime Video again won a Grimme Award this year from a US streaming service. Amazon was honored for his German thriller series "Beat". Last year Netflix had already won one of the prestigious television awards for "Dark". Other excellent series were "Bad Banks" (ZDF / Arte) on the financial world and "Hackerville", a series of pay-TV TNT series on cybercrime.
The undated Grimme Prize has been awarded since 1964 and is considered the most important German television prize.
