Abu Dhabi Tourism Showcases Future Opportunities and Projects
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has held a meeting to develop the tourism sector for hotel managers to discuss partnerships, opportunities, developments and future projects that affect the tourism activity in the emirate.
The meeting, which was held at the Edison Hotel Abu Dhabi, was attended by hotel directors and representatives of tourism industry partners such as attractions, destination management companies, Etihad Airways and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), as well as directors and employees of the Department.
"We have seen strong growth in the number of visitors and guests of our hotel facilities in recent years, but we should always look for the best if we are to maintain these trends," said Saif Ghabash, Undersecretary of the Culture and Tourism Department. "We are on a continuous mission to explore, target and expand more new markets by offering pilot programs and initiatives and extending our operational efforts to them, especially promising and promising markets, while we hope to work more closely with our local partners across the emirate's valuable chain of activities. The Department has set new regulations in the tourism sector to improve the performance of hotels. The results of the Abu Dhabi Program for Development Dues (Tomorrow 21) include the reduction of tourism fees for hotels and restaurants from 6% to 3.5%, municipal fees from 4% to 2% From AED 15 to AED 10, as well as visa requirements for many major markets including China, India and Russia, and the launch of a central licensing platform.
Between the beginning of the year and April, hotel occupancy rose by 2.3% to 1.76 million. Total hotel revenue rose by 13.7% to 2.25 billion and hotel occupancy rose from 1.1% to 79%.
Despite this positive performance, the tourism sector has been affected by many global challenges, including the Sino-US trade dispute, and the strength of the US dollar to which the dirham is linked against major currencies such as the euro and the British pound.
